you're on your own?

As I opened the glass door with steel frame about to enter a fine restaurant, I noticed there were 2 extremely well dressed middle aged women right behind me. Being a mature gentleman(ya-di-ya-di-yada...), I held the door open for them.

Seconds later they entered and walked past me without acknowledging the kindness which I just showed them. No eye contact, no "Thank you" and no nothing. And I was like...

What's up with that? Was I expecting too much???

It wasnt them who've expected too much.

I often encounter situation like this esp in cinema , ppl expect you to hold the door for their whole family & friends without showing gratitude. thats rude.

but if u didnt do hold the door for them, you will be labelled as moron / ungentleman etc etc...argh!

it really can be sickening when all it took was a smile from them. just a simple acknowledgement.
i've encountered countless times when someone holds the door long enough for the person after him/her, but then that person simply walks through and allows the door to slam into the person after him/her.
plenty of such pple around. but don't let it stop the kindness. we won't stoop to become one of them.

Very thoughtful of you. But do not let this incicident stops you from doing kindness. There will always be people who do not reciprocate.

People are just getting colder and colder these days... what to do? We can't change them but just don't become like them...

If I were you
I would feel happy
for lending people a hand. :)
and then let go and move on.

You've done your part and you should be proud about that. If people don't appreciate it, that's their problem. The most important thing is that we are not jerks like them. ;-)

Just my two cents.

i tink it's best when we help, we dun expect anything in return, will make our lives less miserable. (but if the other say thanks, or smile, it will make my day!)

It's the thought that counts. However, according to various moral textbooks, 'you muste do goode unto others even if they don't acknowledge you'.

That's why moral studies sucks... ;P

Some people just take things for granted.. What's so difficult returning with a simple gesture of appreciation or a word of thanks or just a simple smile??
